Prior measurements of the spins of quarks that make up protons and neutrons find these characteristics contribute no more than around 30 percent of the nucleon's total spin, leading to the so-called spin crisis.
“Behind closed doors, people think she might be compromised. Like it’s not hyperbole,” one GOP aide told The Hill. “There are members of our conference who think she’s a [Russian] asset.”
It’s not just about following laws or guidelines — it’s about being mindful and compassionate in our everyday choices, treating sentient creatures with respect.
As we move forward, both industries and individuals have a part to play. After all, how we treat the smallest of creatures often reflects our values as a society.

"This is a test for MAGA types and the populist right to see whether they allow themselves to be lied to flagrantly by elites trying to manipulate them," Drop Site's Ryan Grim wrote in response to Andreessen's comments. "The CFPB put out a legitimately good rule that went after banks over debanking users based on political views. Yes, a populist left-wing CFPB head stood up for the rights of conservatives."
"Now VCs and Musk, who don't like the CFPB for other reasons, are straight up lying to whip people into a frenzy and defang the CFPB," Grim added. "The message: They think you are stupid and can't read and are going to make your life worse in order to enrich themselves."
But China's population statistics can be particularly misleading.
"Virtually overnight, Chongqing has become the largest city not only in China, but in the world," Time Magazine proclaimed in 2005.
But it wasn't true - Chongqing is not the largest city in the world, or even in China.
Why do so many people think it is?
Professor Kam Wing Chan of the University of Washington in the United States, who has made a career out of correcting people's exaggerated claims about Chinese population statistics, explains that what China calls a municipality or city is better understood as a province.
Many of the 30 million people who are said to live in the city of Chongqing are actually agricultural workers living in a rural setting, he says.
In fact, he says, the area is so huge it's about the size of Austria.
"And if you were to travel from the downtown area to some of the peripheral areas where those 30 million live, it might take a day or two because the road conditions are not that good. So, this cannot be possibly called a city. Because when we call a place a city the general understanding is that we're talking about a commuting zone."
Professor Chan calculates that a more reasonable estimate of the urban population of Chongqing is six or seven million.
“Vladimir Putin has sought to appeal more to the poorer parts of society. Inflation risks undercutting this,” he said.
Analysts said price rises were unlikely to trigger massive street protests but they would damage Putin’s popularity.
Ordinary Russians link inflation to Putin’s war in Ukraine. They may not see the war but they can feel it.
Russia’s ailing economy may actually force Putin to end his war in Ukraine.
“It increases the risks to Putin of continuing the war and might just push him to the negotiating table,” said Timothy Ash, an Associate Fellow at Chatham House. “Perhaps, anyway.”
A fair share of Ukrainians who favor negotiating a quick end to the war believe Ukraine should be open to ceding some territory in exchange for peace. More than half of this group (52%) agrees that Ukraine should be open to making some territorial concessions as part of a peace deal to end the war, while 38% disagree and another 10% don’t know. Gallup did not ask more details about the level of territorial concessions that people would be open to.
Asking Ukrainians about various war termination scenarios showed the divergence between their views and Russian demands (see figure 2). Most Ukrainians (83 percent) strongly opposed reducing Ukrainian military capabilities as a condition to end the war—one of the main sticking points in the Russia-Ukraine talks that took place in Belarus and Türkiye in the spring of 2022. Majorities or pluralities also opposed ending the war in the following scenarios: a ceasefire that freezes the current front lines (65 percent), a Ukrainian renunciation of possible EU or NATO membership (65 percent and 60 percent, respectively), a Russian withdrawal from the territories it has occupied since 2022 only (46 percent), or an agreement that Ukraine will never again strike Russia (44 percent).
You want to slow EV adoption to gain a competitive advantage, then that’s what you get. Musk couldn’t complain about that without being a hypocrite – though that doesn’t seem to be a big concern for him these days.
West Island mayors say that Montreal’s consultation on water fluoridation was triggered by a 2020 petition submitted by Ray Coelho — a man they describe as a “far-right” extremist.

“It’s not just that they’re totally unqualified, it’s that they’re anti-qualified. They are qualified to do the opposite of the thing that they are supposed to do,” Snyder said.
“Tulsi Gabbard is talking about a moment when Russian forces are approaching the Ukrainian capital. When Russian assassination squads are attempting to kill the Ukrainian head of state, and she’s advising people that all we have to do is summon up a magic word, and in effect surrender all of Ukraine to Russia,” Snyder continued. “And it’s not naïve. It sounds naïve but it’s not. What it’s doing is trying to prepare the way for more Ukrainian suffering. It’s saying, he who invades is right.”
Fluoride toothpaste is efficacious in preventing dental caries, but its effectiveness depends on frequency of use by persons or their caregivers. In contrast, water fluoridation reaches all residents of communities and generally is not dependent on individual behavior.
Although early studies focused mostly on children, water fluoridation also is effective in preventing dental caries among adults. Fluoridation reduces enamel caries in adults by 20%-40% (16) and prevents caries on the exposed root surfaces of teeth, a condition that particularly affects older adults.
Water fluoridation is especially beneficial for communities of low socioeconomic status (18). These communities have a disproportionate burden of dental caries and have less access than higher income communities to dental-care services and other sources of fluoride. Water fluoridation may help reduce such dental health disparities.
“In just eight years after fluoridation ended in 2011, the need for intravenous antibiotic therapy by children to avoid death by infection rose 700 per cent at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.”
According to Dickinson, a recent University of Alberta study shows that for children under five years old, the rate of dental treatments under anesthesia doubled from 22 per 100,000 in 2010-11 to 45 per 100,000 in 2018-19.
For kids aged six to 11, the rates rose from 14 per 100,000 to 19 per 100,000.
The rates stayed the same over that time period in Edmonton, where the water is fluoridated.
“Since fluoridation ceased, the cavities (holes) in teeth are more numerous and larger. These might require filling or extractions,” Dickinson said.
“They are occurring earlier in a child’s life so that treatment can require general anesthesia.”
Based on 2013 estimated costs ($324 million), net savings (savings minus costs) from fluoridation systems were estimated to be $6,469 million and the estimated return on investment, 20.0.
To see the potential impact of stopping water fluoridation, Yancoskie points to locations that have been previously studied.
"The two areas that were studied were Juneau, Alaska, and Alberta, Canada, and when they removed that fluoride, the rates of cavities increased dramatically in the children of those populations," he said.
"Seventy years of research, thousands of studies and the experience of more than 210 million Americans tell us that water fluoridation is effective in preventing cavities and is safe for children and adults," according to the American Dental Association.
